One of the world’s largest international cargo airlines wanted to maximize its technology investments and streamline pilot workflow by creating a fully paperless cockpit. It also wanted new tools for technicians to speed up aircraft maintenance activities, including using AI to help minimize aircraft downtime, and better employee apps to help attract new talent.
Uniting flight operations leaders, IT, technicians and pilots, Lextech facilitated development of a strategic future vision and success metrics to track progress. Extensive user experience research clarified current workflows, technology interactions and barriers to performance, and solution workshops produced a shared vision and a prioritized roadmap.
Lextech then worked with flight operations and IT to architect the technical infrastructure needed to support the roadmap, managing mobile challenges such as connectivity awareness, limited bandwidth and offline operation, and integrating 19 disparate systems, the first time more than 10 systems had been integrated to drive a single app. Lextech and end-user representatives collaboratively defined the experience, vetted rapid-design prototypes, and delivered MVP versions with regular updates, instrumenting each solution to capture operational metrics so the airline could gauge effectiveness and iterate.
The solution earned a “Hall of Fame” award based on speed to value, reliability and security, and became the foundation for the airline’s app ecosystem strategy, giving pilots better access to the data they need to make critical decisions before and during flight.
“The ability to consolidate required flight information from multiple sources into a single location…is a game changer. It allows the pilot to focus on the most important information and accomplish their work in a time-efficient manner.”
