Client
BlueStar Energy Solutions is an independent electricity supplier to business and residential customers and provides energy efficiency services nationwide. BlueStar’s field service team conducts energy audits in large buildings to determine where the building owner can cut costs and conserve energy by replacing light fixtures and other hardware with more efficient alternatives.
Problem
The old auditing process:
An auditor carried a clipboard and a bunch of worksheets to record his findings at each site. After the audit was complete, he entered the written data into a web application on a computer back in the office.
BlueStar wanted to reduce the time it takes to conduct an audit and eliminate double-data entry (once on the paper worksheet, once in the web application) from the process.
Solution
Lextech developed an iPad app to replace the clipboard and paper-based process.
The app walks field service workers step by step through the auditing worksheet. It captures photographs of fixtures taken with the iPad and serves up hardware suggestions based on the data entered, so the auditor is sure to capture all relevant data in a fraction of the time.
Return on App (ROA)
This application reduces the time it takes employees to generate and submit field reports from 12 hours down to just 4 hours. In addition to cost savings, the shorter audit time also empowers the organization to conduct more audits without hiring more staff, generating more revenue.
