A.M. Castle & Co.

Reducing an inventory search from 60 seconds down to 2 seconds

“Cheetah has excellent response time, and our team is excited to use it and very much looking forward to the mobile app that will follow,” said Kevin Glynn, CIO at A.M. Castle & Co.

Client

A. M. Castle & Co. is the foremost provider of specialty metal products, services, and supply chain solutions. We are recognized as a leading distributor of carbon, alloy, stainless steel, nickel alloys, aluminum, titanium, cast iron, brass, copper, and plastic, as well as a global resource for complex supply chain solutions.

Problem

A.M. Castle has an inside sales force that spend the majority of their time on the phone with clients and prospects, looking up data in an inventory and order management web application. This application was nicknamed “hourglass” by employees because it took considerable time to process requests and return inquiries.

The capacity of the inside sales team was dictated by technology limitations, and as a result the company was losing potential revenue.

Solution

Because the A.M. Castle executive team plans to implement a suite of mobile applications in the near future, Lextech reengineered the “hourglass” web application with mobile top of mind.

The new application allows users to search inventory quickly and address order inquiries efficiently.

Return on App (ROA)

A search that previously took a sales person 60 seconds is now executed in as little as 2 seconds. This 96% reduction in time empowers the inside sales group to better serve existing customers and earn new business.

The application was well received by employees and has since received the internal nickname, “Cheetah.”
